Anybody there?

Silence… A door creek… Footsteps. Phew!
It has been a few days shy of three months since I last penned down something for this space. There have been so many things that led to that, but at the core of it all lies confusion, priorities in this season and maybe a hint of demotivation. Did I mention confusion? Okay, maybe the term is conflicted, but we will get into that soon.
I figured that it would be unfair for me to get back here and continue with regular posting without some sort of updating. And while I was trying to find the perfect topic or title for my comeback, a seamless idea crossed my mind: What better way to do this than to hop onto the Taking Stock bandwagon? Grab your popcorn, fellas.
Making fitness an important part of my self-care. I want to feel just as good as I want to look. With that, I work out 4 times a week and even on my rest days, I stretch. I want my body to be flexible, strong and above all, to feel like home.
Eating less, which is crazy because I have always been a poor eater and I hate that this habit is slowly creeping in. I can count the number of times I have had supper in the past one month. It is not intentional; I just find myself doing it.
Drinking a hot mug of dawa at least twice each week. Mine consists of a boiled blend of lemon, ginger, cinnamon and honey, topped off with a spoonful of honey.
Reading A New Earth by Erchart Tolle. This is by far the best book I have ever read. The author does not play when he says that you will either find this book to be life-changing or pointless; no in-between. I am so glad to have read the book at a time when I was so ready for the book. I am not the same person.
Wanting to call Patience for what seems like an eternity now. It has been a while since we did a proper catch up. Doing that once I am done taking stock.
Playing POV by Ariana Grande. Also, she is one of the judges at this year’s The Voice. Love that for her!
Wasting no time feeding my anxiety (I kid!). Seriously though, I am doing my best at staying present and reminding myself that now is all that I have.
Creating sketches and patterns for a creation I want to get into very soon.
Wishing I could give people less control on decisions about my life and my future. Although there are some aspects I have grown to love and enjoy. Would 100% not recommend. Okay, maybe 92.87%. You get the point.
Enjoying doing my skincare. What most people don’t realize is that skincare does not start and end in your room. One of the outdoor skincare habits I practice here in Lodwar is wearing long-sleeved cotton shirts to protect my arms from sunburns when I am out in the sun.
Loving where I am mentally. Maybe A New Earth has helped a great deal with that but even before reading the book, I could sense calmness, presence and consciousness in how I live right now. It truly is a matter of perspective.
Hoping to learn more about data in this season. I am blessed to have found scholars (whom I am honored to call friends) that I can reach out to for help and guidance.
Marveling at the realization of how loved I am. You attract who you are, really.
Smelling the oud scent my cousin purchased the other day. I now realize that oud scents with a hint of fruitiness and woodiness work for me. They have to be mild yet present and lasting though. I am currently at a phase where I am on a hunt for scents I like. Saying that reminds me of a time when my sister gifted me Mademoiselle by Coco Chanel and I have never received so many complements with regard to a scent than I did during that time. I would not mind a refill. However, no one has 20k to blow up, or do you?
Wearing deras more while winding down in the evenings. I find them to be very free and comfortable, especially in this heat on these northern sides.
Following more pages and accounts that bring me joy. That is my goal for the rest of the year.
Noticing that sunsets in Turkana are such moments to relish.
Knowing that you have to be honest with yourself in order to move forward. Basking on facades will do you more harm than good in the long-run.
Feeling grateful for my weight. I currently weigh 54kgs, and it was only until this year that I was able to get past the 50th mark. I would not want to go past 55kgs though, which is one of the reasons that I work out religiously. Additionally, I am feeling grateful for the conversations I have with people so dear to me. It also helps that they don’t find my mind to be too much for them.
Bookmarking optical frames that I would want to purchase next. Can you tell that I am already over my current ones? I have come to realize that I am a simple girl when it comes to basics. In this case, optical frames are my staples and I would love for them to be neutral enough to go with everything, which is something that my current ones are not.
Opening pages in my personal notebook and being amazed by how far I have come. I have this habit of penning down random thoughts on random pages of the book and going back to read them months (maybe even years later). I love that I can see progress in so many things.
Giggling at videos of my nephew that I used to capture when he was still such a baby. Why do they grow up so fast though?
Wondering at how long lunch breaks in Lodwar are. Can you imagine that lunch breaks here last for 2 hours? 2 whole hours, that is from 1pm to 3pm. I find that to be so strange and new. I am never getting used to that. Oh, the cherry on the cake is the fact that offices have to be closed for that period. Like, ‘stop what you are doing; you should not be working at this time. Heck, you should not even be in the office.’ Tell me if you can ever get used to that.
PS: In case it wasn’t obvious already, I got this taking stock trend from Sharon Mundia alias This is Ess (www.thisisessential.com). How I wish she still did taking stock blog posts or videos. I got the taking stock questions from this post and I had to answer mine before reading hers lest I was tempted to overthink my answers.
Your turn; pick up a tag and answer it in the comments section.
