I have had to learn a lot of things in the long half-year that has been the first six months of 2020. A lot of these came in as a rude shock but I now know that this right here is adulthood. I have had to do a lot of thinking, learning and unlearning, beating and blaming myself, forgiving and above all, growing. Growing pains do take a toll on one’s general know-how, huh?
Thankfully, there always exists a brighter side to life. I have been able to discover new or not-so-new things that I love doing during my free time during this quarantine and self-isolation time. My top 5 faves are:
1. Listening to Music
Music has a special place in my soul and it will remain that way forever. Over the past few months, I have found myself discovering new artists. The thing about me is that when I love an artist, I go ahead and listen to all their songs to an extent I get to sing along to pretty much every song of theirs word by word. Some of my all-time favorite artists are Beyonce, Ariana Grande, Chloe and Halle, J Cole, August Alsina and Miguel. Oh, August just made a comeback with an album and if you liked him then, you will love him now.
I cannot believe that I am the one saying this but I have been struggling to finish a book in a while now. My friend Karendi also recently posted about the same. So Karendi, here is to twinning in totally absurd things. Lol. For real though, I guess this has to do with the fact that my mind has been unsettled in the recent past. I have also been trying to read books that are not part of my go-to genres. Maybe that is the reason. All in all, I am trying to get back to reading because that feeds my soul, gives me more knowledge and helps in improving my writing skills.
One of my best ways to reward myself is by buying myself the things I love. Finances have not been looking so good in most people’s accounts, including mine, but budgeting is key. I specifically love thrift shopping from this cute thrift store on WhatsApp and Instagram known as Sandy’s Thrifts and I end up with really cute yet affordable finds. My friend also recently opened her lingerie wear and ladies, you will love the pieces from Lorem Lingerie on Instagram.
It may be hard for you to prioritize self-care when you seem to be taking far too many Ls in life. However, it is necessary, even if it means crying yourself through it. I specifically tend to go back to my same old Sunday evening habits such as putting on a face mask, shaving, cutting my nails, arranging my clothes and even decluttering. Simple habits like these do help me. I also made purchases off Nene Femhealth and I am waiting for the feminine health products to get shipped via Savo store so I can finally use them. Can’t wait!
Child, 2020 got me on my feet. I have had to learn and unlearn a lot of things from people to religion to business. Also, I am in that bittersweet limbo where I am trying to learn about religion for the first time in my life. So, if you really know much about Christianity and religion as a whole, I am open to discussion. I would really love to know why I believe in what I believe in without blindly buying into whatever belief I was born in.
